HEMC

Hydroxyethyl methylcellulose (HEMC) is widely used in water-based latex coatings, construction and building materials, printing inks, oil drilling, etc., serving as a thickening and water-retaining agent, enhancing workability, and is used in dry and wet mortar series products.

Hydroxyethyl cellulose is widely used as an excipient in pharmaceutical preparations, including oral tablets, suspensions, and topical preparations.

The working principle of HEMC powder

1. Water solubility and thickening property:
can form a transparent colloidal solution in water, significantly increasing the viscosity of the system, and is suitable for scenarios requiring control of fluidity (such as coatings, adhesives).

2. Water retention capacity:
In building materials (such as cement mortar), HEMC can slow down the rate of water evaporation, ensure complete hydration of the material, and enhance strength and crack resistance.

3. Thermogel property:
When the temperature rises to a specific critical point (usually 40-60℃), the HEMC solution will temporarily gel, and regain fluidity after cooling. This property is used in food industry for temperature control processes.

4. pH stability:
It maintains stable performance within the pH range of 3-11, suitable for formulation design in acidic and alkaline environments.

Main Application

01 Construction Materials Field

Dry-mixed Mortar: As a water-retaining agent and thickening agent, HEMC can improve the workability and anti-sagging property of the mortar, and reduce the problems of hollowing and cracking.
Self-leveling Floor Materials: By adjusting the viscosity, it ensures the uniform flow of the slurry and extends the operational time.

02 Coatings and Adhesives

Latex Paint: HEMC provides excellent opening-cup performance and smooth application, preventing pigment sedimentation.
Tile Adhesive: Enhances the wetting property of the adhesive to the substrate, improving the bonding strength.

03 Medicine and Cosmetics

Drug Sustained-release Agent: As a coating material for tablets, it controls the release rate of the drug.
Personal Care Products: Used in shampoos and toothpaste, it improves texture and suspension stability.

Product Advantages of HEMC

  • Solubility:
HEMC dissolves faster in cold water, while HPMC requires a higher temperature.
  • Gel temperature:
The gel temperature of HEMC is usually lower than that of HPMC, making it suitable for environments requiring low-temperature construction.
  • Biodegradability resistance:
Due to the presence of hydroxyethyl groups, HEMC has slightly better mold resistance than HPMC.
